Compulsory Legal

The compulsory legal OPD activity in 2017 is on a Checklist for Solemnising Marriage and Offences under the Marriage Act 1961. For more info from the AGD refer to www.ag.gov.au

Melissa has been an approved OPD (Ongoing Professional Development) Trainer since 2007 and has a huge body of celebrant training experience to share with you, having taught literally thousands of marriage celebrants all around Australia.

As one of only a dozen or so Australian OPD legal trainers of the 2007-8 compulsory legal topic, Melissa Halliday (trainer number 07010) was approved by the Attorney General's department to train the 2009 three (3) hour module and all OPD since that time for the College of Celebrancy and lately Assent-TECS.

The 2008-9 OPD year required particpants to buy  a 2hr DVD "When Words are not Enough" (approx $25) which constituted the 2 hr Compulsory legal topic.

Major changes and an introduced system of cost recovery by the AGD from 1st July 2014 meant celebrants now pay a $240 registration fee each year (invoiced in July and required to be paid within 2 months at the risk of deregistration) and we are moving over to a system where the old 5 year performance reviews will be replaced with online questionnaires and online reporting of ceremonies will be reintroduced (largely for ABS purposes). There are new forms such as the newly revised Notice of Intended Marriage (former form 13) that now allows an Aussie passport as proof of date and place of birth. Please call me on 0425213338 to arrange a 2 hr Refresher on all these changes and expert advice on using these new forms and the new Lifelink program (through BDM).
